Super Bowl Weekend: Steelers Friday Night Five Questions
Written by admin on February 7, 2026
Happy Friday, and I hope yinz are doing well.
As each week passes, there’s yet another flurry of news regarding the Pittsburgh Steelers. Even though the 2025 NFL season hasn’t officially ended yet and the new league year is still around a month away, the Steelers have been as busy as ever in their offseason.
The Steelers have spent the past week filling out the rest of Mike McCarthy’s coaching staff. Patrick Graham is the new defensive coordinator, Brian Angelichio is the offensive coordinator, and the staff has become very wide-ranging. Not including strength and conditioning coaches, nor the Chief of Staff role held by Steve Scarnecchia, the Steelers already have 15 coaches on the staff and still will likely hire a tight ends coach.
Elsewhere in the NFL, the biggest game of the season awaits on Sunday. The New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, teams the Steelers played in Weeks 2 and 3, will face off in San Francisco to decide this year’s NFL champion.
As always, we’re here with you throughout the weekend for whatever news comes our way.
Have a safe and happy weekend.

Recap: Pro Bowl Weekend: Steelers Friday Night Five Questions
17 respondents. Was there a Pro Bowl?
Q1: From 1-10 (10 being most confident) how confident are you in the Mike McCarthy hire?
Steelers Depot respondents are approaching the hiring of Mike McCarthy with cautious optimism. The coaching staff he’s hired provided more enthusiasm. But we want to see how it translates on the field. The median score was a 7 out of 10.
Q2: Should a Pro Bowl nomination still be considered a legitimate recognition?
Strong opinions. Most felt that Pro Bowl recognition has become a farce. Several folks suggested only recognizing the initial Pro Bowl team with others relegated to alternate but without the recognition of being a Pro Bowler.
Q3: What changes would you make to improve the Pro Bowl?
Responses fell into four broad categories. To play an actual football game, to make it an awards ceremony with no “competition,” to introduce better football skills so all positions can participate (1 on 1 drills), or to get rid of it all together. Respondents’ preferences were tied between playing a real game or just getting rid of the Pro Bowl altogether (or at least getting rid of current format).
Q4: Mike McCarthy indicated he will keep the Steelers’ 3-4 base defense. Is that the right decision?
As a group, we believe keeping the 3-4 base defense is the right decision. But a large group believes it’s irrelevant since there are so many special defensive packages used. Good thing we have a defensive coordinator who believes in adapting the defensive scheme to the opposition’s offense and the talent on the roster.
Q5: Should the Steelers draft a QB in 2026 or 2027?
Ten of 17 respondents want to wait until 2027 to draft a quarterback. One person prefers the team tank to improve chances of selecting a franchise quarterback. But a large group wants to keep drafting a QB every year if necessary until the next Terry or Ben is on the roster.
