“Sinatra the Musical” makes its West End debut this summer starting on June 3, after playing a sold-out initial run in Birmingham in 2023.
“Sinatra the Musical” it set to premiere in London’s West End this summer at the Aldwych Theatre, beginning on June 3. The musical played a sold-out initial run at Birmingham Rep in 2023 after it was first sparked between Universal Music Group (UMG) and Frank Sinatra Enterprises (FSE) in 2022.
The production features over 20 hit songs from the legendary Sinatra catalog, such as “Come Fly With Me,” “The Best Is Yet to Come,” “That’s Life,” and “One For My Baby.” It follows a 27-year-old Sinatra in his momentous ascent to fame, his marriage to Nancy Sinatra, his affair with Ava Gardner, his public career downturn, and his historic comeback.
The show was written by playwright, author, and lyricist Joe DiPietro, who has won Tony Awards for his work on the musical “Memphis.” He is also known for his work on such productions as “What’s New Pussycat?” and “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.” Three-time Tony winner Kathleen Marshall choreographs and directs the musical, which also features a set designed by Peter McKintosh and a 17-piece orchestra supervised by Gareth Valentine.
“When Tina Sinatra approached me about writing a show detailing the origins of her father’s genius, she gave me unprecedented access to her dad’s personal story,” said DiPietro. “Tina’s willingness to share the trials and triumphs of her father’s life has enabled Kathleen, myself, and this remarkable team of theatre artists to create the most revealing portrait ever told about the legend that is Frank Sinatra.”
“My dad always used to say, ‘If I can’t feel it, I can’t sing it,’” said Tina Sinatra. “As a result, he wasn’t just singing songs; he was recording an emotional diary of his life. And it’s these classic songs that form the heart of ‘Sinatra the Musical.’”
“After working with Tina and FSE for many years on Frank Sinatra’s treasured catalog of music, I’m thrilled to help bring this new production to the stage that will add another dimension to his artistry and music,” added Bruce Resnikoff, President & CEO of Universal Music Enterprises.
The musical is the first in a series of planned projects developed by Frank Sinatra Enterprises alongside Universal Music Group to spotlight Sinatra’s musical legacy for new audiences.
