The Los Angeles Dodgers came into the season with the best roster in baseball, and it wasn’t particularly close. Los Angeles has spent well over a billion dollars over the last two offseasons in order to build an unbreakable powerhouse.

But injuries have still hurt the Dodgers in crushing ways.

This season, the pitching staff has been destroyed by injuries, and it’s likely going to push the Dodgers toward a huge trade in the coming days. Los Angeles isn’t the kind of team to roll over and die. The front office is likely working on bringing one or two star pitchers to the team before Thursday’s trade deadline.

MLB’s Mark Feinsand recently suggested the Dodgers were interested in a trade for St. Louis Cardinals star closer Ryan Helsley ahead of the upcoming trade deadline.

“Ryan Helsley is one of the most popular trade targets with no less than a half-dozen teams interested to varying degrees. Among the suitors, per sources, are the Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Phillies, Rangers and Blue Jays,” Feinsand wrote in a post to Twitter/X on Tuesday morning.

Helsley would fit perfectly with the Dodgers. He would slot in at the backend of games alongside a slew of other talented relievers. This would take a lot of pressure off Tanner Scott when he’s healthy. It would also relieve some of the pressure on the rotation.

Helsley would be expensive to acquire, but the Dodgers have plenty of prospects to move. They could even include former top prospects James Outman or Bobby Miller to entice the Cardinals.

Either way, this fit makes plenty of sense. Don’t be surprised if Helsley is suiting up in Dodger Blue in a week.
