October’s always an interesting time for PS Plus, as subscribers tend to be looking towards increasingly busy release schedules and, of course, Halloween celebrations.

Fortunately, Sony’s understood the assignment on that latter point, as Alan Wake 2 is the undisputed headline act of next month’s offering.

Remedy’s often insane sequel was one of the highest rated releases of 2023, sporting a deeply weird and brilliantly intricate story that revolves around all kinds of intriguing themes. And at times, it really is a horror game — which is obviously perfect for the season.

Alan’s joined by the wonderful Cocoon, which some might argue is the real jewel of October’s selection. This expertly crafted indie takes the idea of delving into different playable spaces to new heights. It’s difficult to properly explain here, but trust us when we say the gameplay loop is fantastic.

And to round things off, we’ve got Goat Simulator 3, which could prove to provide a suitable getaway from the nightmares of Alan Wake 2. A dumb but reasonably fun release, all things considered.

But what do you think of your PS Plus Essential games for October 2025? As always, have your say in our polls, and then explain your opinion in the comments section below.

A little too much, some might say.
