Jeremy Allen White on Fatherhood, Balancing Acting Career

“I made breakfast for my daughters, took them to school and later I will pick them up and make dinner,” he explained of their typical morning schedule. “I have seven dinner dishes I do well, and three my children enjoy. You do the prep, then they take a bite and just ask for chicken nuggets.”

Although Jeremy—who recently sparked dating rumors with his The Bear costar Molly Gordon—can whip up a balanced meal for his daughters, he’s still trying to find the perfect ingredients to help him navigate his method acting. Whether being a passionate fictional chef or transforming into Bruce Springsteen for the biopic, Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, he noted that these roles always demand his full attention. 

And sometimes, that intense dedication can be taxing on his family life.  

“I’m getting paid to put myself in painful places,” he explained. “On The Bear, it’s not like I walk around punching walls and screaming in my closet. But I stay close to that energy and it’s uncomfortable—and filming the Bruce movie was incredibly difficult. I was in isolation. I was far from my children. I didn’t travel home much.”

He continued, “It made me unwell and when I came out of it I thought, ‘There has to be a better way.’”

But despite that difficult transition, he’ll always make room for Ezer and Delores in his work life. In fact, Jeremy gave his kids a sweet shoutout during his acceptance speech at the 2024 Emmys, where he won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in The Bear.

“Ezer and Louie, I love you so, so, so, so much,” he said during the ceremony. “You are my heart. Thank you.”
