Here Is How Much Zimbabweans Have to Pay for US Business and Tourism Visa Bonds

Travel to the United States for business or leisure is about to become significantly more expensive for Zimbabweans, following the introduction of a mandatory visa bond for certain non-immigrant applicants.

The new pilot programme applies to those seeking B1/B2 visitor visas for business or tourism purposes.

High Bond Fees to Be Paid at Interview

According to The Herald, under the scheme, visa applicants will be required to post a bond of US$5 000, US$10 000, or US$15 000, determined at the time of the visa interview.

The bond is intended to ensure applicants comply with the terms of their visit and return home as required.

The Department of State has identified nationals from these countries as needing visa bonds,” the statement read, adding that Zimbabweans are now included in this programme effective January 21, 2026.

Grounded in US Immigration Law

The State Department explained that the visa bond requirements are established under INA Section 221(g)(3) and the Temporary Final Rule (TFR) setting up the pilot programme. The policy is informed by B1/B2 visa overstay rates, according to the Department of Homeland Security’s Entry/Exit Overstay Report.

Purpose of the Bond Programme

The visa bond is designed to encourage compliance with visa conditions, particularly in countries identified as having high overstay rates.

Zimbabweans planning to travel to the US for short-term business or tourism trips will need to prepare for the additional financial requirement before their interviews.
