Hands brings in CEO for Untypical

Gary Ennis has been appointed chief executive of Untypical, the brand that combines Hopkins Homes and Tilia Homes.

But while Hopkins and Tilia are limited companies, there is no actual house-building business called Untypical (or even ‘untypical’, which is how the brand chooses to style itself) registered at Companies House for Ennis to be chief executive of – not yet, anyway.

Guy Hands, founder of Terra Firma Capital Partners, bought Tilia Homes (when it was called Kier Living) from Kier in May 2021 and Hopkins Homes from James Hopkins in January 2022. In October 2024 he announced that the two companies were merging under a new name of ‘untypical’. More than a year later and that merger has still not happened.

Despite the lack of corporate entity, Ennis becomes chief executive of Untypical on Monday 8^th December, based in Solihull. 

Ennis spent almost three decades at Barratt Developments, latterly as regional managing director for London and the southeast until September 2024.
