Ruth Jones is back in business with the BBC.
After the record-breaking Gavin & Stacey finale, the BAFTA-winner has set a comedy about middle-aged relationships, co-written and co-starring Steve Speirs (Stella).
The untitled series tells the story of an unlikely friendship between two people who meet at a knee trauma clinic: retired teacher Clive, a 60-year-old widower, and environmental officer Shelley-Ann, a 55-year-old going through a bitter divorce.
BBC comedy chief Jon Petrie said: “We were genuinely weak at the knees when this script first landed in our inboxes. It’s a rare thing to read something that feels so instantly special, and we cannot wait to see it come to life.”
The series is a Tidy production for BBC1, BBC Wales, and iPlayer. It was commissioned by Nick Andrews, head of commissioning for BBC Wales, and Petrie. The commissioning editors for the BBC are Emma Lawson and Paul Forde.
