Douglas Zimmerman/SFGATEA male juvenile was stabbed on a Muni bus during a physical fight with multiple minors in San Francisco on Monday, officials said.
The stabbing occurred at about 4:41 p.m. at Stockton and Sutter streets, about half a mile from Union Square, the San Francisco Police Department said.
SFPD said after units arrived on the scene, the boy was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Multiple people were detained but no arrests have been made, officials said.
San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency said the 8, 15, 30 and 45 bus lines experienced delays during the time of the incident.
A spokesperson from SFMTA told SFGATE that there are currently no bus service impacts related to the incident.
Data from SFPD shows that approximately two crimes occurred on a Muni vehicle every 100,000 miles on average between August 2020 and January 2023. On June 22, 2022, a shooting inside a Muni train killed one person and injured another.
SFMTA told SFGATE that throughout the past year, the agency has worked to improve Muni safety with increased staff presence and additional video surveillance.
