Soul singer Sienna Rose might be an AI artist—but she says she feels real. So what’s the deal with the mysterious singer with millions of streams?
Sienna Rose popped up seemingly out of nowhere and already has three smoky, jazz-infused songs in Spotify’s Viral Top 50, a sign that she could become one of the hottest new stars of 2026. But signs point to Sienna and her music being AI-generated.
Deezer, the France-based music streaming service which developed tools last year to tackle AI-generated music, said in a statement to the BBC that “many of her albums and songs on the platform are detected and flagged” as being computer-generated. Moreover, as the BBC points out, Rose “has no social media presence, has never played a gig, has no videos, and has released an improbable number of songs in a short space of time.” All are signs that indicate that the artist isn’t real.
Even the music itself contains some hallmarks of AI-generation, according to many listeners. Many songs feature a “telltale hiss” running throughout—a common trait of music generated on platforms like Suno and Udio. In fact, this white noise is a big part of what enables Deezer to flag AI songs.
This is partly because apps like Suno and Udio start with white noise and refine it until it resembles something like music.
“When the [software] adds all the layers and instruments, it introduces errors,” said Gabriel Mesegeur-Brocal, senior research scientist at Deezer. “They’re not perceptual; we cannot listen to them, but they’re easy to spot if you do a few mathematical operations.”
But the layman listener can still detect other signs, like inconsistent drum patterns, simple lyrics, or a singer who never strays from the melody’s path. Rose’s songs have even been removed from some regions’ charts amid genAI speculation.
But now, a TikTok account claiming to belong to Rose herself has popped up, asserting that she “feels real,” as she holds up a phone with her Spotify artist page open. She’s also posted videos of herself singing Sienna Rose songs, further fueling speculation as to whether the artist is actually an AI farce.
So what’s the truth? It could be that Sienna Rose is a real person and a real artist who also uses AI to create her music. Or perhaps Sienna Rose is based on a real person but is otherwise the product of AI. It’s difficult to say for sure.
One thing is certain, however: whether an artist and their music is AI or not will continue to pop up as we navigate this unprecedented landscape. As we become better at identifying that which is AI-generated, so too will AI platforms become better at evading detection.
