Is A.J. Brown Injured? A Look at the Eagles Star’s Status After Slow Start in Week 17 vs. Bills

Written by on December 28, 2025

For the first time this season, the Philadelphia Eagles finally look like the world-beating, reigning NFL champions they came into the season as. After an up-and-down start, they finally got it going over the last two weeks, registering consecutive blowouts to secure a playoff spot and win the NFC East.

However, facing the Buffalo Bills in Week 17, they have one of their biggest remaining challenges of the year against another Super Bowl contender. Unfortunately, an extremely quiet first half may have raised the alarm bells once again, after A.J. Brown had a slow start to the game.

What Happened to A.J. Brown?

Throughout the season, the Eagles’ passing offense has been a significant concern. With the regression from Saquon Barkley, blame has fallen on virtually every party, including offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo and quarterback Jalen Hurts as well.

However, the one player who has been vocally critical of his own team has been Brown. It’s been a recurring theme for Philadelphia all season long. However, it seemed to have quietened down in recent weeks, as they defeated the Las Vegas Raiders and the Washington Commanders.

Brown had a slow start to the game, but picked up pace in the second quarter. At the time of writing, he had four receptions for 60 yards, and is on his way to a big game for the Eagles.

Over the last five weeks, the season has gone through a metamorphosis for Brown. While he’s ranked 20th on PFSN’s WR Impact for the year, his numbers have jumped and down. Through the first four weeks, he had two games with under 10 receiving yards.

And while he had the occasional outburst moving forward, his overall production remained pedestrian. It wasn’t until five weeks ago, when the Eagles took on the Dallas Cowboys in a 24-21 loss, that the superstar wide receiver flipped the script on his season.

In the year, he’s totaled 935 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, coming into Week 17. But more than half of his total (478 yards and four touchdowns) have come in the last five games, as the offense has gravitated more towards the passing game.

But facing a wildly tougher opponent in the Bills than their previous two contests against the Las Vegas Raiders and the Washington Commanders, the hope has to be that Philly can continue its offensive renaissance and carry that momentum into a potentially deep playoff run.
