Saregama India gains a 28% stake in Bhansali Productions in a $36 million investment that includes exclusive music rights to all its future projects.
Music label and entertainment company Saregama India, part of the RPSG Group, has announced a ₹325 crore ($35.9 million) investment in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film production house, Bhansali Productions. The partnership provides Saregama exclusive music rights to all the film house’s future projects, while Bhansali Productions retains complete creative control.
Saregama expects to hold between 28% and 49.9% of the company “on a fully diluted basis” by 2028. The deal also gives Saregama the option to increase its stake to 51% by 2030, subject to further investment that would be determined per the transaction agreement.
“This partnership underscores Saregama’s strategy of aligning with India’s finest creative minds while delivering long-term value to shareholders,” said Avarna Jain, Vice Chairperson, Saregama India. “Bhansali Productions’ excellence in storytelling and content creation perfectly complements our leadership in music and entertainment.”
“For me, powerful and meaningful cinema requires time, trust, and a deep respect for the process,” said Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Founder, Bhansali Productions. “In Saregama, we have found a partner that understands this philosophy. We share a deep respect for art, music, and storytelling that is both grounded in tradition and resonates with audiences across generations.”
As part of Saregama’s broader content strategy, the company will gradually streamline its in-house film production activities within the next couple of years, focusing on strategic partnerships.
These funds will help Bhansali Productions significantly augment its content slate across formats, upping its game as a world-class studio while retaining all of its IP going forward.
According to the RPSG Group, the structure of the partnership guarantees Saregama a steady stream of film music, eliminating competitive bidding, and securing long-term market share in new music and controlling acquisition costs.
