Savannah Guthrie Reveals She Once Spanked a Male Coworker at Holiday Party

Savannah Guthrie has given fans a glimpse of her wild side with a shocking holiday party story.
Guthrie, 53, appeared as Jenna Bush Hager’s guest cohost on the Tuesday, December 23, episode of Today With Jenna & Friends. During the show’s “Girl Code” segment, the hosts answered a fan question about an upcoming office holiday party, which prompted Guthrie to share a memory from one of her own office parties.
The fan’s question read, “My office holiday party is in a few days … My work bestie Jackie is usually ‘over-served’ and becomes inappropriately flirty at these events. Last year she was hanging all over our boss and she doesn’t remember it at all. Should I say something ahead of time or roll the dice?”
In response to the question, Bush Hager, 44, jokingly asked producers, “Did y’all put this in?”
Meanwhile, Guthrie added, “I just have to say, as someone who has spanked a network correspondent at a holiday party …”
Though the Today coanchor wouldn’t reveal the name of the person she spanked, she clarified that “it was an air spanking, so I don’t think I actually — it wasn’t hand [contact].” Additionally, when asked by Bush Hager if the coworker was a “man or a woman,” Guthrie responded, “Obviously it was a guy!”
“You’ve spanked me before,” Bush Hager pointed out.
“Well, yes, and I made contact with you,” Guthrie said. “But we’re at that point, our friendship.”
Guthrie then advised the fan to avoid telling her coworker how to behave.
“It won’t be well received,” she continued. “She doesn’t remember it. I don’t think any good can come of it.”
Bush Hager quipped, “But what if you’re worried about her spanking somebody and getting called into HR?”
Guthrie has been a guest cohost on Today With Jenna & Friends multiple times since Hoda Kotb’s exit in January. She also serves as main coanchor on Today. However, on December 19, Guthrie announced that she would be taking time off from the talk show to undergo vocal surgery in the new year.
“Some of you have noticed that my voice has been very scratchy and started to crack a little bit,” she said. “Well, I have found out what it is. I have vocal nodules, and now I also have a polyp. It’s not a big, big deal, but I am going to have a surgery real early in the new year and be off for a couple of weeks. So it’s my last day for a little while. So I just want to let everyone know, and if you’ve been wondering, do I have the world’s longest head cold? No, I don’t.”
Guthrie added that she is “really excited” about getting the surgery.
“This has been going on for years, honestly,” she continued. “It’s really funny. I used to be able to sing, and then I couldn’t sing anymore, and then I couldn’t speak anymore, so who knows?”

Her costars Craig Melvin, Al Roker and Sheinelle Jones wished her well ahead of the procedure.
“It’ll be great. You’ll be fine,” Jones, 47, who also had surgery on one of her vocal cords, told Guthrie.
“Prayers for healing and recovery,” Melvin, 46, added.
