Final Weeks to Experience Rashid Johnsons Landmark Exhibition A Poem for Deep Thinkers

AsRashid Johnson: A Poem for Deep Thinkersenters its final weeks, the Guggenheim New Yorkwillconcludethe exhibitionspublic programming serieswith acelebratory,all-dayWrap Partyon January 10.Featuringcommunity partners and collaborators from across the series, theeventwillinclude performances and creative experiencesthroughout theday andculminatein an after-hours concertbythe legendary Afrofuturist jazz ensemble Sun Ra Arkestra,complete witha cash bar and access to the exhibition.Jazz pianists willcontinueperformingas individual collaborators inSanguinethrough January 18, whiledaytimepoetry readingsonRotunda Stagecurated by the Asian American Writers Workshopwill continue through January17.

Over the course of theexhibitions run,theGuggenheim New York hasprogrammedA Poem for Deep Thinkerswithmore than200 performances by over 300 performers, ranging in agefrom13to101.The showis Johnsons first solo presentation at the Guggenheim, his largest exhibition to date, and the first expansive museum survey of his work in overa decade.Bringingtogether more than ninetyartworks,it has been animated bya dynamic program of events developed in collaboration with community partners across New Yorkfromartsorganizations such asThe ApolloandCave Canem;to youth music schoolsincluding Harlem School of the Arts and Mannes Prep.

In collaboration with Johnson, the Guggenheimalsolaunched Teen Circle, a free membership program for teens ages 1318 that connects young New Yorkers with art and fosters a creative, cultural community at the museum. The initiative reflects the artists commitment to empowering youth to explore and experiment with the arts, ensuringthat this engagement continuesbeyondthe exhibitionsclose.

Throughout the day,emerging musiciansfrom Mannes Prepand acclaimed professionalpianistswill activate the piano withinSanguine.Visitorswillalsobe able toengage with poetryfill-in-the-blankcards created by2025Poet-in-ResidenceTraciBrimhallandcomposepoemsinspired by the exhibitionwithguidancefromDreamYardProject.The afternoon willconclude with a high-energy teen poetry slam onRotunda Stagehosted by Urban Word NYCa vibrant showcase of creativity with cash prizes.
