Manga ‘Wondance’ Receives Live-Action Movie

The wraparound band on the 15th volume of Coffee‘s Wondance (Wandance) manga announced a live-action movie on Tuesday (pictured right).
Coffee began serializing the performing arts manga in Afternoon magazine in January 2019. Kodansha published the 14th volume on September 22. The publisher released a special music video collaboration featuring the television anime’s ending theme “Wondrous” by dance and vocal group ELSEE in commemoration of the release of the 15th volume (embedded below). Wondance has a cumulative 1.1 million copies of its volumes in circulation.
The television anime produced by animation studios Madhouse and Cyclone Graphics aired in 12 episodes in Fall 2025. Disney+ streamed the anime worldwide, with Hulu streaming it in the U.S., later releasing an English dub.
Kodansha USA licensed the manga in English in July 2021 and released the 13th volume on August 12.
Wondance was recommended by the jury at the 24th and 25th Japan Media Arts Festival in 2021 and 2022. The manga was included in MyAnimeList’s 2023 edition of You Should Read This Manga in the Should Be Anime category.
Synopsis
As Kaboku “Kabo” Kotani enrolls in Ichiran High School, he hopes to spend his high school days quietly to avoid standing out from everyone else because of his stuttering. While his friends join the school’s basketball club, he looks to the dance club instead. However, due to an embarrassing memory from middle school, Koba has avoided dancing in front of others again, keeping him from joining the club.
Things begin to change when Kabo spots his cute classmate Hikari Wanda dancing. As the two learn about each other, Wanda admits that she is not great with words either and prefers to express herself with her performances. This sparks a light in Kabo, and he decides to join the dance club despite his uncomfortable past. With Wanda and his new clubmates supporting him, Kabo sets out to improve his dancing, express himself freely, and create unforgettable memories one step at a time. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
