Ohio State’s Brian Hartline will be the Next USF Head Coach
Written by admin on December 3, 2025
As the Coaching Carousel turns, you never know what’s going to happen next. Brian Hartline was considered one of the top two options for Kentucky. As we all know by now, the Wildcats went with Will Stein. That isn’t stopping Hartline from getting a job during this cycle.
According to multiple reports, the Ohio State offensive coordinator will become the next head coach at USF. He’s replacing Alex Golesh, a Josh Heupel disciple who was hired by Auburn on Sunday. Hartline is expected to continue to call plays for the Buckeyes through the College Football Playoff.
“Hartline was USF’s No. 1 choice even before Alex Golesh left for Auburn,” a source told On3’s Brett McMurphy.
This morning, KSBoard readers received a similar sentiment about the Wildcats’ head coach. Sources who were closely involved in the coaching search told KSR that Will Stein was Kentucky’s top target, and they weren’t taking no for an answer.
Another Crazy Coaching Carousel Twist
Ohio State fans probably aren’t shocked that Hartline is looking elsewhere to climb up the coaching ladder. Kansas State fans are probably shocked to hear this morning that they are hopping on the Coaching Carousel.

Chris Klieman is expected to announce his retirement this week after seven seasons in the Little Apple. A four-time National Champion at North Dakota State, Klieman had the tall task of replacing a legend, Bill Snyder. He went 54-34 at Kansas State and won a Big 12 Title in 2022.
Even though the Purple Wildcats were always solid, things slipped when they turned to quarterback Avery Johnson. The former five-star talent did not reach lofty expectations, and the pressure was crushing Klieman, who broke down in tears during a postgame press conference after K-State blew a late lead at Utah.
Klieman is expected to be replaced by a familiar name for K-State fans, former Wildcat quarterback Collin Klein, who’s been an exceptional play-caller for Texas A&M. Like many others during this Coaching Carousel, he will continue to serve as the Aggies’ offensive coordinator through the College Football Playoff.
