Maskiri Arrested in Chitungwiza After Police Sting Over Goat Sale Scam
Zimbabwean rapper Maskiri was arrested yesterday after a dramatic police sting in Chitungwiza. The bust stemmed from a failed goat deal that allegedly cost a US-based Zimbabwean US$1,500.
The musician, who has recently diversified into goat breeding and frequently advertises “Boer Kalahari Red” imports on social media, was nabbed after police posed as fans booking him for a “birthday party performance,” H-Metro reveals.

Goat Deal Gone Wrong
The case stems from a complaint filed by Tonderai Chisoro, a Zimbabwean based in the United States.
Chisoro says he contacted Maskiri hoping to purchase goats to add to his family’s livestock back home.
“I sent the money through Mukuru in three transactions. But when I started asking about the first delivery of five goats, the young man started changing goal posts. One day he was in the rural areas, the next day he wasn’t picking up his calls. Eventually he just went quiet,” he told the publication.
Police say none of the US$1,500 has been recovered.
Relatives File Police Report
Frustrated by the silence and lack of delivery, Chisoro alerted his relatives in Zimbabwe, who reported the matter to Chitungwiza Police Station under CR559/11/25.
That report triggered a search for the rapper, who had allegedly stopped responding to all messages and calls related to the deal.
The Sting Operation: Fake Birthday Party Booking
According to police insiders, two officers — Dulani and Mushaninga — devised the plan that eventually led to Maskiri’s arrest.
The officers contacted the musician pretending to be organising a birthday party and wanting him to perform.
A booking fee of US$300 was agreed upon, and Maskiri reportedly promised to bring fellow artist Tererai Mugwadi.
On the day of the arrest, the officers phoned him again, claiming they had managed to secure US$200 as a deposit and inviting him to Chicken Inn at Unit C junction.
Arrest at Chicken Inn
Witnesses at the fast-food outlet say Maskiri walked into the meeting unaware that it was a trap.
He was swiftly apprehended by police, with onlookers shocked to see the popular rapper being bundled into a vehicle.
Even the InDrive driver who had dropped him off reportedly joined the commotion, demanding his fare as police officers whisked him away.
Police say investigations into the alleged goat scam are still ongoing.
Social Media Reacts
Many Zimbabweans reacted with humour and disbelief following news of Maskiri’s arrest, with social media users poking fun at the unusual circumstances of the case.
