A school bus transporting a Pennsylvania school football team was involved in a horrific crash that left more than 20 people injured.
The Aliquippa Jr. High School Football Team was on the bus when it crashed on Saturday morning, KDKA-TV reported. The team left the area around 11 a.m., and each player is being evaluated, according to the team’s Facebook page.
A total of 28 people were on the bus at the time of the crash, including 25 students. The bus driver and 21 of the students were taken to the hospital. It comes after 5 were killed dead – including one child – when a Niagara Falls tour bus overturned.
Their conditions are unknown at this time. The cause of the crash is also unclear.
Two other adults were on the bus at the time, but were not hurt.
The Aliquippa superintendent said he was on his way to the hospital to check on the students.
“Please take a moment to send a thought or prayer for each player or coach that was traveling this morning,” the team said in a post on Facebook.
The incident comes a day after a deadly bus crash in New York. Five people were killed, including one child, after a tour bus returning from Niagara Falls overturned on I-90 W in Pembroke on Friday.
The bus, which was carrying 54 people, flipped over shortly before 12:30 p.m. People inside were ejected as the windows shattered.
Maj. Andre Ray said that passengers ranged in age from 1 to 74.
“At this time we have multiple fatalities, multiple entrapments and multiple injuries,” said Trooper James O’Callaghan, a spokesperson for the New York State Police.
Several ambulances and medical helicopters transported people from the crash. O’Callaghan said most passengers were Indian, Chinese and Filipino, and translators were being brought to the scene.
