Fairy Tale Opera: Candy House

The China National Opera theatre will be performing the Grimm’s fairy tale, Candy House, at opera house of NCPA

With its beautiful melody, memorable scenes, and humorous storytelling, Candy House is considered one of the most popular children’s operas in the world. The play is adapted from Grimm’s fairy tale Candy House that tells the story of Hansel and Gretel.

Five Stars Out of the East

In an exquisite fusion of ancient history and contemporary art, the dance drama, Five Stars Rising from the East, brings to life the story of a 2,000-year-old Han-dynasty brocade, while weaving together past and present scenes.

Xu Rui, the President of Beijing Dance Academy, was inspired to write the play by a famous archaeological find in 1995. An expedition to the Niya Ruins unearthed a piece of Han-dynasty brocade that was inscribed “Five Stars Rising from the East Benefits China.” 

This impeccably costumes and choreographed show will entertain even if you can’t follow the plot!
