The Irish soldier died during an ambush in the country’s south
An Irish soldier serving in a United Nations peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon was killed and three others were wounded late Wednesday when they came under attack from unknown gunmen, according to the U.N. and the Irish Defense Forces.
The attack occurred near the town of Aqbieh—about halfway between Beirut and Lebanon’s southern border—when one of two armored vehicles carrying eight Irish peacekeepers to a local airport took a wrong turn and was ambushed on a dark road, authorities said.
