After the blockbuster trade to send Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks, the Brooklyn Nets remain active ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline.
According to Shams Charania of Stadium and The Athletic, the Nets are “closing in” on a deal that would send Kessler Edwards to the Sacramento Kings.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski noted the benefits of the deal for Brooklyn:

Nets are finalizing trade to send forward Kessler Edwards and cash to the Kings, sources tell ESPN. The Nets save a total of $8M in salary and luxury tax and open up a roster spot. Edwards still has to approve trade because he has a “one-year Bird Rights restriction” in his deal.
Edwards has seen limited playing time with the Nets during his second season, averaging 1.1 points in 14 NBA appearances.
The 22-year-old played six minutes in Monday’s loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, his first appearance with the team since Dec. 10, but finished with no points or rebounds on 0-of-2 shooting.
Edwards also spent time in the G League this year, averaging 11.5 points and 6.0 rebounds across 10 games with the Long Island Nets.
According to Wojnarowski, Sacramento also plans to use the 2021 second-round pick in the G League with the Stockton Kings, although his future is “fluid” ahead of the deadline.
The Kings already have a quality rotation that has lifted the team to third in the Western Conference, but the young talent could be an impact addition down the line with one more year of team control before becoming a restricted free agent in 2024.
Brooklyn, meanwhile, will have more roster flexibility before the deadline.
The team added Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith in exchange for Irving, while Marc Stein reported the Nets haven’t ruled out flipping Dinwiddie in another trade.
