A man died after being shot at San Francisco’s 24th Street BART station plaza in the Mission District on Sunday, officials said. Two suspects are at large, BART spokesperson Chris Filippi wrote in an email.

The shooting was first reported at 4:07 p.m., and at the scene, officers found a victim with life-threatening injuries, Filippi said. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital and pronounced dead at a 7:08 p.m., according to BART.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation by the BART Police Department, which is reviewing surveillance video from cameras in the plaza above the station. “Surveillance video has played an important role in helping BART PD to identify violent individuals in many recent cases and we are hopeful it will help investigators to find these suspects,” Filippi wrote.

The 24th Street BART plaza is a popular gathering spot and the station is a key access point to the Mission District.
